Now will my Oldish Phenom II 945 bottleneck that card? Probably on some CPU intensive games but Oh well.. When/if I ever have the funds to do a new build atleast those 2 components are already covered. ;D
I told that family that if they wanted to give me something.. they can give me cash to pitch in on my purchase.
I'm not familiar with powercolor.. I'm a sapphire fan myself.. but I'll give them a chance.. hopefully I won't regret it. I really needed something that could run most games at 1080 and my almost year old 7750 just wasn't cutting it.
The 7750 I have now can run some games at 1080 with low options.. but even then for the most part my FPS were low enough to annoy me so generally I ran graphically intensive games at 1600x900 which the 7750 could handle like a champ.
The power supply was because My current PSU is a few years old and even when it was brand new I'm not sure I'd trust it to power that 7870. Its been solid even for a model made by a company that went under. (BFG GS-550) While it was rated at 550 watt max many tests showed it went kaput long before reaching its maximum. So while it could possibly run the new card.. the fact that its almost 4 years old means It really isn't to be trusted to pump out the necessary power for that new card. Even with minimal capicitor degredation if you add in the testing that showed it could barely pump out 500 W (was more like 450w at room tempatures) when brand new means it would be a crap shoot.
Since the new PSU is rated at 630 CONTINUOUS rather than max.. It should be good to go for a quite a few years even if/when I build a new system in the meantime.
TLDR or I don't understand geek speak:
I bought some new toys for my PC.
