If I'm just modifying the .DDS i just use paint.net If i get into modifying the UVs then its blender I'm apparently deprived of any skills since even this is proving to be huge task for me. I'm curious, if you could describe the process of editing .dds in detail. I'm not asking about the use of program but actual work on the textures. How do you keep original "lines and borders" unchanged? For example, you changed the camo but the ERA block are still there and all other stuff that is visible on the surface of the tanks is there. Is it something about layers? Whatever I tried, I ended up coloring over thos things and if I tried to not color over them, it looked terrible (small fragments of original texture always seem to be visible) Layers + layer properties = Various blending methods. That and tons of trial and error. Try this for a quick experiment. open up the DDS. Layers-Add new. Paste a camo Texture into that layer Layer properties- Play with the different settings (blend mode and Opacity) . Various blending methods + any other technique you can think of can accomplish alot depending on how much time you're willing to spend. Its not the only method I use but its probably the easiest to try. (also play with all the effects/adjustments etc up top.. can do some simple recolors etc just with those) It's not ONE particular tool or method in Paint.net that makes it possible.. its getting familiar with all the tools it has and then using them together. More I do it better I get. (also Paint.net has Plugins so even more tools/options are available if you want/need) If you have Photoshop or some premium program then paint.net probably isn't needed.. but as far as free Paint programs go I've never seen better.
