The year is 2013 and Japan can no longer sit idly by as China spreads its influence throughout Asia. North Korea's latest nuclear test has finally forced the Japanese Empire to act. Not willing to wait for South Korean approval Japan declares war on North Korea. North Korea quickly buckles under the might of the Japanese army and is annexed by the Empire of Japan. Japan then secures alliances with an array of nations to form the "Grand coalition of allied nations for the liberation of China". This coalition consists of South Korea, Vietnam, Taiwan, Singapore, the United States, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom. A two front invasion of China is launched, one led by the Vietnamese in the south and another spearheaded by the South Koreans and Japanese in the north. With the opening of the southern front by the Vietnamese the northern front rapidly collapses. Beijing falls and, realizing the hopelessness of their situation, the Chinese government surrenders. China and Hong Kong are colonized by the Japanese Empire as the first members of the "Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere".
South Korea then makes the mistake of attempting to raise the issue of Northern Korean sovereignty with the Emperor and so Japan attacks South Korea. South Korea is crushed and annexed by the Empire. With Japan's now massive military force it is decided that Japan must finally reclaim Taiwan. The Imperial Navy seizes control of the seas off the coast of Taiwan and the invasion begins. For such a small nation Taiwan proves much more of a challenge to defeat than any nation that Japan has fought before. Despite their best efforts, Japanese forces are beaten back and failure appears imminent. Then, Japan's only true remaining ally, the only nation to stand by Japan and honor their commitment, Vietnam arrives with a massive troop commitment and saves the Japanese invasion force. The Vietnamese and Japanese drive back the Taiwanese and crush them utterly, annexing Taiwan.
Finally, Japan turns its gaze north, to the Kuril islands and Sakhalin, both integral parts of the Japanese Empire but both under Russian occupation. Should Japan liberate these islands now or further consolidate its power throughout Asia? There is also the issue of the traitorous Americans who must be punished for abandoning Japan at the outset of the Taiwan-Japan war. in the south lies the Philippines and Australia, both under U.S. influence. Perhaps it would be best to add them to the "Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere" before dealing with Russia?
(Side note: I've noticed that no other wars have sprung up since I started this game. I guess the rest of the world is stunned by my might lol. Also, after I built up my navy to almost absurd extremes it felt soooooo good to take down Taiwan. I've never defeated them before! I listened to some good WW2 era Japanese navy music while I attacked them ;D Also, I'm considering moving the capital of Japan to where I currently live in Japan. Does anybody else ever get the urge to do this when playing as their home country?

I entrenched over 300 units in fortresses on the border, most of which were artillery. Literally any unit that came anywhere near the border got totally annihilated within about 30 seconds lol. By the by I'm still not up to my 12 battleships and 25 carriers goal yet. I currently have 6 battleships and 8 aircraft carriers.
